VRF: Cooling System of the Future

BY Leila Almethen / 25 January 2020 / HVAC

It is always fascinating to see new technological developments in the market. Over the past decade there has been an expansion into the field of the HVAC system it is called the VRF (Variable refrigerant flow).

This cooling unit has entered expanded application in the fields of residential, light commercial and commercial sectors. Last year, the VRF’s global market even increased their sales at 5.7% from the previous year, totaling at a 1.77 Million Units.

But why is this? What makes the VRF such an attractive alternative to the original HVAC system?

There are actually several different reasons for this new shift. Among the most popular are its space saving capacity, energy efficacy and most importantly temperature control.

The VRF units are significantly smaller than its predecessor. This make it an attractive piece of equipment to have on residential properties as it gives the owner more freedom and space to utilize the roof of their home. Even commercial projects, who have previously used chiller systems, are now adapting the VRF as an alternate solution in order to increase their space.

The system not only saves space but also has reached a positive impact on the environment. Through various innovations in its compressors and heat exchangers, the system has now been made into a unit that has compact smart controllers that are highly efficient and have very low environmental impact. The development of this technology, which underwent nearly 40 years of extensive research, experimentation and development, has gained the user the ability to utilize the technology giving them more control. How? With the VRF system it allows the use of individual temperature control of rooms. These are just a few features among the many that make the VRF system the cooling system of the future.
